What Is The Link Between Poor Sleep & Mental Health?

Sleep plays an important role in our mental health and wellbeing, and sets strong foundations of a healthy mind and body. Lack of sleep, and poor sleep quality, can negatively impact our mental health and make us more prone to stress, anxiety, depression and lacking the energy to fully engage in our day-to-day activities.

At the same time, people who struggle with mental health issues are more likely to experience sleep difficulties, such as finding it hard to fall asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, or waking up very early in the morning. As a result of the lack of energy, people are less likely to self-care and look after themselves, creating a vicious cycle of poor sleep and mental health.
